英文摘要
Centrifugation is a physical process that consists in the use of spining to create a centrifugal force that sedimentates dense particles or liquids in complex mixtures. Cell and molecular biologists as well as biochemists use the instrument (centrifuge) to separate and fractionate biological material, particularly cells, organelles and macromolecules. Our group studies the biological functions of various cell types. This knowledge is important since abnormal cell function and regulation is the basis of several malignancies including cancer, infectious and autoimmune diseases. To better understand cell function, we need to culture bacteria, yeast and various cell types originating from mammalian organs. These cells are harvested in small or large quantities to be used for various investigations. The current grant application brings together a group of NSERC-funded teams for whom, the centrifugation is critically required on a daily basis. Therefore the requested equipment is indispensable for the accomplishment of each research program.
