IVY is a six-sided immersive projective visualization environment that was built at York University using CFI funds in 1999. IVY has been renewed on a number of occasions, most recently upgrading its display projectors in 2010. In use since 1999, IVY has enabled research across a wide of interdisciplinary topics including human perception of self-orientation and self-motion. Research using IVY has lead to self-orientation perception experiments under microgravity conditions that have flown on CSA-funded microgravity flights, on board the International Space Station, in von Humboldt-funded buoyancy experiments, in CSA- and ESA-funded long term bedrest studies on the use of bed rest to simulate microgravity, in DLR-funded hypergravity conditions using a short-arm centrifuge, and in von Humboldt-funded research on the perception of self-motion. IVY has also supported research into the development of virtual reality hardware and software, including work on tracking technology and performance requirements.
