Recent exponential growth in the application of microbiology and molecular biology tools to solve environmental engineering problems has opened up opportunities to analyse and manipulate complex microbial communities in environmental systems. In the current research, funding for three environmental microbiology instruments is proposed. These tools will facilitate (1) the investigation of bacterial community structures isolated from environmental samples, (2) the evaluation of microorganism diversity in response to environmental stress, and (3) the assessment of microbiological water quality. The tools can be applied in several fields of environmental engineering including wastewater biological treatment processes, natural aquatic systems, bioremediation, and waste composting.
