The nano carbon material fabrication facility requested will be used to support the research programs of the Advanced Micro/NanoDevices Lab (AMNDL) at the University of Waterloo (UW). Currently, the lab is focusing on understanding, modeling, designing, integrating, and developing all aspects of functional micro/nanodevices. Dr. Yeow's research programs are focused on 4 major thrusts: (i) development of Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasound Transducers (CMUTs) for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and biomedical imaging applications; (ii) development of a miniature x-ray device for in vivo delivery radiation beams; (iii) development of a flexible and transparent dosimeter for real-time radiation detection; (iv) development of Lab-on-a-Chip using MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) has enabled the miniaturization and integration of multiple molecular diagnostic systems.The requested equipment will support the aforementioned programs by providing the means to grow carbon nanotubes, carbon fibres, and graphene. These materials will be used as field emission sources, and sensing elements. The goal of the research programs are to improve or invent new biomedical instruments.
