Monitoring the health of aging "remote" vital systems such as biomedical (hip, knee, spinal and retina implants), aerospace (fuselage and bonded patches) and environmental systems (carbon emission) requires the deployment of sensory mechanisms that can be utilized to accurately capture the status of these system's operating health in real time (during an aging or rehabilitation phase). To operate efficiently, this Health Monitoring (HM) platform should be integrated within its deployed environments with minimum interference; it is expected to be self sustained in energy and capable to communicate remotely with the outside environment. Recent attempts in the development of Micro and Nano Electro mechanical systems MEMS/NEMS technologies has resulted in new capabilities for health monitoring using micro/nano sciences.
