The project proposes to develop satellite data link capability on Android mobile devices. The project is in partnership with Solara Remote Data Delivery Incorporated located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Solara was formed in 2005 to meet the unsatisfied need for a real-time, two-way data portable communication system using Iridium satellites for ensuring personal safety in remote areas without communications infrastructure. The system is useful for Canadian Rangers in Yellowknife, NWT and Inuit hunters and transport operators in Coral Harbour, Arviat, and Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. Solara is now on the third iteration of this product and has also developed a complementary data management and mapping system.
