Fuelled by the emerging energy and global warming crises, the use of microalgae as photo-cellular factories for photobiomanufacturing processes such as biomass energy production and CO2 biosequestration has become one of the most dynamic frontiers in biotechnology. The vast genetic diversity of microalgae and their high-efficiency photosynthetic mechanisms offer tremendous opportunities in this field.
