英文摘要
Our research program focuses on molecular electronics, an exciting field of research due to the potential of these devices to surmount the scaling limits of conventional semiconductor technology. A molecular electronic device is one in which at least one of the device dimensions is the thickness of one molecule. As yet, there are no commercially successful molecular electronic devices; work in molecular electronics is in the fundamental research stage. Our research program uses a molecular junction test structure to investigate how molecules transport electrons. We design and synthesize new molecules with specific chemical properties that will produce desired electronic function. Our fundamental studies then correlate the chemical structure to the electrical function. Ultimately, our research program aims to produce useful molecular wires and switches for use in practical molecular electronic devices.
