Mobile 3D multimedia streaming

Mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablet computers, are increasingly used for multimedia services such as on-demand video streaming, live streaming, and video conferencing. Given the wide adoption of mobile devices, their users are expected to demand higher quality and more cost-effective mobile multimedia services. The goal of this project is to optimize the efficiency and quality of service of current and future mobile multimedia systems. We propose optimization techniques that enable current systems to provide higher-quality multimedia contents to large-scale user communities over diverse wireless networks. We also propose architectures and algorithms for optimizing near-future mobile systems that offer 3D multimedia contents, which are expected to be the future of multimedia services. The algorithms and systems developed in this project will enable access to high-quality and 3D multimedia contents from anywhere, anytime, and on any device. This will accelerate the creation of innovative multimedia services, which will lead to better social life for Canadians, more effective methods of communication and thus higher productivity, and opportunities for Canadian companies to become more competitive in the vibrant and rapidly growing global market of multimedia services.
