Service-oriented architectures (SOAs) are a popular paradigm for developing Web applications that allows applications to be constructed of existing services in a dynamic manner. We envision that the next-generation computing platform will be a pervasive cloud that will be composed of a hybrid cloud, which is a combination of private and public clouds, acting as a dynamic resource backbone for the platform, and mobile devices connecting, on an intermittent basis, with the cloud and with each other. Services will be hosted on the backbone, on a mobile device, or on some combination of the two.
