Tissue scaffolds are three-dimensional structures made from biomaterials and used to repair or replace damaged tissues or organs, including peripheral nerve injuries, spinal cord injuries, osteoarthritis, myocardial infarction, and stroke. Fabrication of scaffolds with living cells or bio-fabricating tissue scaffolds has proven challenging; existing systems or tools for scaffold bio-fabrication have several limitations or issues. To rise this challenge, we intend to develop a novel system or tool for bio-fabricating tissue scaffolds, thereby supporting and enhancing research on scaffolds towards tissue engineering applications. As a pilot study, this project is aimed at performing a market assessment of this development. The results from the market study will confirm that the novel system has immediate technological and economic merit or benefits to the bio-fabrication research community and industry and help develop a commercialization strategy for the future. The results of the market study will also provide an effective means to strengthen the novel aspects of the proposed system and, on this basis, identify new intellectual property with regards to both the system developed and the scaffold designs fabricated by the system.
