This project is intended to solve the specific problem of attaching DNA aptamers to a gold surface developed by Nicoya Inc to develop an easy-to-use biosensor platform for detecting important proteins in blood samples. Nicoya is interested in using the color change of gold nanoparticles upon binding to biomolecules as a way to detect proteins and the Liu lab is experienced in using DNA-based probes for specific protein binding. This project explores the interaction between DNA probes and gold surface, tests various blocking agents to optimize sensor performance and measures sensor performance. Successful completion of this project will put Canada in a strong position in developing this useful biosensor platform.
