An IR Microscope to An Existing FTIR Spectrometer

A Thermo Fisher Continuum IR Microscope is requested at a total cost of $106,071, to fit the existing Nicolet 8700 FTIR spectrometer at the Alberta Center for Surface Engineering and Science. This infrared microsampling system provides the highest spatial resolution currently available on the market for FTIR spectrometers. With Tru-View sample illumination, the microscope allows for simultaneous viewing and sampling, making microscope sampling faster, easier and more accurate because it eliminates the need to switch between sample view and data collection modes. The IR microscope attachment, coupled with the existing Nicolet 8700 FTIR spectrometer, will greatly expand and deepen the research activities of the applicant and co-applicants as well as the researchers at large on and off the University of Alberta campus.
