New generation microplate reader

Dominique Michaud and Charles Goulet, from the Département de phytologie of Laval University in Québec City, are seeking financial support from NSERC Research Tools and Instruments Grants Program for the acquisition of a SpectroMax Plus 384 microplate reader. Drs. Michaud and Goulet lead NSERC-funded research programs in the broad fields of plant molecular physiology and biotechnology, and both of them rely on gene cloning and high throughput biochemical procedures for different aspects of their work. The new equipment will contribute to the overall efficiency of their teammates in the lab, by simplifying and accelerating data collection and processing, by minimizing the amount of biological material required to run lab analyses, and by eventually allowing the adoption of experimental procedures that could hardly be performed using readers of previous generations. Since no functional microplate reader is currently in place at the applicants' research centre, the new equipment will be useful as well to a number of colleagues in the same building also performing gene cloning and/or high-throughput biochemical assays.
