Our collective research on marine ecology and evolution focuses on theoretical, experimental, and applied work in marine environments. Our research contributes to the protection and preservation of ecosystems in oceans and seas, focusing on limiting human-induced damage to ecosystems, and on the restoration and conservation of these communities. We conduct research that advances fundamental concepts in ecology and evolution. The nature of this research requires continual access to natural populations of aquatic organisms in these marine environments. We are requesting funds to purchase a skiff for research at the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre in support of our research programs in marine ecology and evolution. The remote nature of our research sites necessitates a skiff that follows Transport Canada guidelines for passenger safety and provides the necessary infrastructure for transporting samples and for scientific diving. This equipment will be essential for our research programs that strive to understand the ecological and evolutionary consequences of variation in nature, contributing to the protection of the environment and ensuring long-term resilience and sustainability of ecosystems for both ecological integrity and human wellbeing.
