The LiDAR tools for Building Information Modelling (BIM) proposal seeks to establish sophisticated laser-scanning capabilities to enhance the College's Applied Research capacity. The laser scanning system can rapidly capture a building's physical dimensions from multiple vantage points to generate a 3D model file that is compatible with industry standards. The tools would have a significant impact on a current applied research project to develop information systems to bring building floor plan information to emergency responders in the field. The laser scanning capabilities would allow them to complete their planned development to bring 3D plans to first responders. The tools would also have applications in Architecture & interior Design, Museum studies, Heritage carpentry and masonry as well as Media & Design applications for gaming and video production.
