On large construction sites there are usually several cranes operating to undertake material handling tasks which together can provide overall coverage of all materials, from onsite supply to demand points. In the interest of safety and of efficiency of operations, cranes' locations are carefully selected in order to avoid collisions. Planning and execution of onsite crane operations are often very timely procedures that lead to production delays and added costs. The proposed Integrated Crane Automation, Planning and Simulation (ICAPS) program combines all aspects of crane lifts for on-site assembly on heavy industrial projects-including automation, planning, and simulation-into a single software application. The program will train the personnel directly involved with critical and non-critical modular lifts; incorporate analysis of what-if-scenarios of crane manual position selection and utilization procedures; generate individual lift studies for approval and execution; and create visualization outputs for individual lifts, with an emphasis on object trajectory acceptance (detailed mode) and global project 4D animation with crane utilization schema (simple mode). ICAPS will function as an independent unit where outputs can be extracted at desired algorithm processing steps and converted into numerical values for specific task process durations, and can generate individual lift visualization movies or automated critical lift study drawings.
