User eXperience Research (UXR) Lab

The User eXperience Research (UXR) Lab is a new collaborative undertaking between the Design Centre and the Health and Wellness Research Centre at Algonquin College. The Lab will address an emerging need for both Centres and the College more broadly, in providing external clients conducting applied research collaborations with the college to access a methodology to enhance the marketability of their end-products through enhanced user experience. The Design Centre has an already established expertise in user focused design, but lacks the specialized equipment to formally assess usability and user experience. The recently established Health and Wellness Research Centre has a focus on advancing medical devices and technologies and in particular the emerging area of mobile medical technologies for which usability and technology assessment are particularly critical in terms of patient safety. This proposal will bring together the hardware, software and collaborative communications technologies needed to foster enhanced user experience research.
