Filtration of suspended liquid/solid contaminants from different type of oils (fuel, lubricant and hydraulic system oil) is an important step in many industries. One of the most effective ways of filtering solid particles or liquid droplets is the use of filter media. Assessing the performance of such filtration device is complex as it must consider the fluid flow through the porous filtration medium which exists in both coalescer and separator. Among other important aspects, calculating the extra pressure drop due to the porous filter is of primary objective. Conventionally this is accomplished through multiple sets of experiments considering possible geometric and operating conditions.
