Thermal spray coating is a well-established technology in which metal or ceramic powders are fed into a high temperature plasma jet directed onto a surface. Powder particles melt when introduced into the hot gas, flatten upon impact with the solid substrate and freeze rapidly to form a dense deposit. Thermal spray coatings are widely used in the aerospace, power generation and medical industries to create wear, heat and corrosion resistant coatings.
