Steep slopes and tunnels excavated in rock are subject to instabilities that can adversely affect infrastructure and public safety. In spite of the existing monitoring and slope stability analysis techniques, practical and cost-effective risk management strategies for long-term operation of tunnels or rock cuts are limited. The long-term research goal is to broaden the range of application of terrestrial photogrammetry in rock engineering as a practical tool to improve rock stability assessment and risk management. In particular, the research will develop and apply new fieldwork and innovative analysis techniques for both steep rock cuts and tunnels.
