The vision of Ubiquitous Computing whereby sensors and other computing technology built into the world around us enable smart buildings, offices and other public places to recognize people and provide them with services is a compelling and potentially paradigm shifting vision. However, although the subject of significant research effort, we are still a long way from seeing a practical realisation in everyday life.
