Research in power conversion for renewable energy sources has gained attention in the need to transform various forms of raw/unregulated power into quality power required for end users and backup systems. The urgent need for developing renewable power systems is based on several fundamental motivations: a) as a result of market needs in the context of a fast growing green industry; b) the pieces of emerging technologies that can be integrated to develop added-value products; c) government mandate to become a key player in renewable energy production and modern power distribution systems; and d) an imperative demand from society and upcoming legislations to increase renewable power generation to reduce green house emissions.
