This project aims to develop a new type of functional cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) for Advanced Cellulosic Material (ACM), previously known as BioVision Technology Inc., which will extend the use of CNCs into optical applications. We will prepare CNCs that emit light by coupling CNCs and fluorescent quantum dots (QDs). ACM manufactures CNCs that are carboxylated; this surface chemistry distinguishes them from other producers of CNCs by offering a more versatile "handle" through which to add chemical functionality.
