英文摘要
Due to the scientific drive and social necessity for more environmentally-friendly products, the proposed research program focuses on developing novel materials from renewable resources. Specifically, it aims to transform the performance of an emerging Canadian material from wood pulp, called nanocellulose. This research will overcome challenges that are currently limiting nanocellulose commercialization by imparting high temperature/salt stability, optimizing interactions with polymers, and controlling particle assembly. The links between nanocellulose chemistry and functionality will be elucidated. This innovative research is crucial to enable widespread use of nanocellulose in strategic Canadian industries, including pulp & paper, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, and manufacturing.
