This proposal seeks to develop high-value latex polymer products using cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) which are sustainable nanoparticles derived from wood pulp with a strong Canadian presence. Latex polymers are used in a broad range of applications including coatings, adhesives, thin films, paints and rubbers. Specifically, we aim to use CNCs as a nanofiller or crosslinking agent in latex polymers. We hypothesize that the addition of CNCs will modify the microstructural properties of the latex and improve their overall performance.
