This project will utilize Carleton University's expertise relating to the mechanical behaviour of foams to assist Summet Sys is determining the spatial limitations of their proprietary additive manufacturing technology. The proposed work would involve a close collaboration between academic and industrial partners through a process of material design, production, and analysis. The availability of specialized equipment at Carleton will enable the informative investigations into the quality of the fine-scale production capabilities of the industrial partner's manufacturing process. Investigations of foams provide an ideal assessment tool in terms of project costs, production scales, and as a comparison basis of material performance. The combination of design-production-analysis will provide the industrial partner with useful data that will help them extend the spatial capabilities of their manufacturing process.
