The primary purpose of this project is to explore a variety of promising technologies with the goal of reinforcing fabric materials for personal protective clothing applications, where high impact resistance and toughness are required. The project will investigate new material systems that may provide an advantage against several impact threats. This project will combine the high strain rate materials knowledge at Carleton University with the manufacturing and prototyping knowledge of Electro-Pack to assess the feasibility of new material systems for impact protection. The focus will be placed on the integration of new materials into protective fabrics using innovative integration and material combination approaches with the goal of improving
their penetration performance. The outcome of this feasibility project will be useful for Electro-Pack in the design of a future fabric coating production line.
