Petro-Canada has developed new, environmentally friendly, chemistry that provides control of plant diseases by inducing the natural resistance in host plants. These products were tested for the first time on onions and carrots in 2013. Some interesting results were obtained, especially on carrots. One of the Suncor product combinations was as effective as a standard fungicide for disease control in carrots. In addition, two of the product combinations significantly also reduced the incidence of the disease, aster yellows. This project will develop more data on the most effective product combinations and test new products alone and in combination with fungicides. A range of treatments will be evaluated for control of carrot leaf blights and aster yellows of carrot and selected treatments on onions will be repeated.
