This project will investigate the properties of single-layer graphite or graphene manufactured by liquid exfoliation of graphite concentrates provided by Zenyatta Ventures Inc., Thunder Bay, Ontario. This exploration company is in the process of investigating the nature and profitability of a new graphite deposit (Albany) that was discovered recently in northern Ontario. Graphene is a tremendously interesting new form of graphite that is being used in a growing number of new applications. The quality of the graphene produced from graphite concentrate provided by Zenyatta, will be accessed by electrical transport measurements as a function of temperature as well as by structural investigations via electron and scanning probe microscopies. Graphene made from a natural graphite sourced from a Canadian deposit may lead to significant implifications for Zenyatta Ventures. Besides new employment, expanded markets for investment will help the Canadian economy.
