Entangled photon-pair sources are used in a variety of applications including quantum computation, quantum cryptography, quantum communication, teleportation, quantum clock synchronization, and quantum imaging. Several approaches have been used for entangled photon generation in optical fibers based on phase-matched four-wave mixing (FWM). Phase-matching has been achieved by engineering (1) intermodal chromatic-dispersion in single-mode optical fibers such as dispersion-shifted fibers, microstructured fibers, and photonics crystal fibers, as well as (2) intramodal dispersion in multimode fiber waveguides such as birefringent optical fibers for polarization entangled photon generation.
