Conventional person authentication is used as a first gate for access to protected content, and includes passwords, tokens, and biometrics. Rather than a discrete authentication gate, active authentication is continuous to provide a more accurate method, which is more robust (e.g., against spoofing). Previous research has shown that the electrocardiogram (ECG) can be used as a biometric. New wearable devices permit easy, continuous ECG monitoring and enable the potential for active authentication via the ECG. Reticle Ventures Canada Inc. ('Reticle') has identified need for a convenient, mobile, active person authentication solution.
