Algonquin College is creating a Health and Wellness Research Centre that will leverage the College's existing educational and research strengths in Health and Community Studies to develop highly trained personnel and stimulate job creation and economic growth. The initial thrust of the Centre and focus of this proposal will be the design, development and testing of patient-centric and health care provider-centric medical devices that will seamlessly integrate to ensure timely and accurate flow of data between patient and provider. This will improve patient testing and monitoring, enhance provider response and lead to decreased costs across the health and wellness continuum while increasing quality and timeliness of service. Our goals are to enhance student training and preparedness for the workplace, further develop faculty skill-sets and assist entrepreneurs, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and large companies to develop products, processes and services within the Health and Wellness industries. The Centre will leverage the College's full array of services enabling clients to build businesses and not just technologies.
