Crystal Green Energy (CGE) is developing a tracker with Concentrator PhotoVoltaic-Thermal (CPV-T) receivers, where the overall potential yield is 2-3 times higher than todays conventional fixed flat photovoltaic panels. When mounted on sun trackers, CPV-T panels, are always fully illuminated during clear day hours, make better use of that energy with extremely high quality concentrator optics and state-of-the-art high efficiency (40%) solar cells, harvest the remaining heat energy in an efficient thermal collection system, for use in building heating, process domestic hot water, salt-cycle air-conditioning, or other use. Every element has been previously optimized individually, and a key next step is based on a careful analysis of CPV cells performance under a large span of temperature ranges to model the behaviour of CPV-T at the system level. The CPV work at Universite de Sherbrooke is very well aligned to develop the required measurements setups and analysis strategies in order to further enhance CGE CPV-T technology.
