英文摘要
SWITCH Materials is developing an optical filter material for automotive glazing that modulates solar light
transmission in response to light and electricity. Exposure to sunlight triggers a reaction that darkens the
material, reducing the solar light transmission and heat gain of the vehicle interior. Application of a small
voltage reverts to a high light transmission state. Here we propose to develop nuclear magnetic resonance based
techniques that will allow us to understand the transport properties of the important chemical species inside the
optical filter material. These materials are complicated polymer gel electrolyte film formulations containing a
number of chemical species. Traditional high-resolution NMR techniques will not allow us to distinguish the
components of interest. The methods to be developed here will allow the measurement of transport properties
of the important components within the film materials. Ultimately the measurement of molecular diffusion and
electric field driven transport in finished film materials subject to electrical stimulation will allow us to
understand the performance limits of these materials and allow SWITCH Materials to optimize its products for
market.
