英文摘要
The invention pertains to the challenge of wastewater treatment and petroleum industries production of a highly toxic gas, hydrogen sulfide, as a result of their production processes. Current methods and products to capture and remove sulfides with scrubbing liquids containing caustic and oxidizing agents have issues with the scrubber chemistry and disposal of spent scrubber materials. The solution involves a silver (Ag+) chitosan flake composite that removes sulfide from air and liquids with the spent medium converted into usable products. Chitosan flakes are readily available, inexpensive, natural linear polysaccharide obtained from shrimp and other crustacean shells. The target market for this technology are petroleum industries and industries involved in wastewater treatment. Possible applications for the technology include: - As an active ingredient in air filter masks in areas exposed to hydrogen sulfide gas as a two stage sequential filter system with visual indicators that provides potential increase to safety for workers in environments where toxic levels of hydrogen sulfide can pose a lethal risk. - As a method of removing the remaining sulfur in low sulfur fuels. Technology advantages of this innovation are: - Cost effective and environmentally friendly compared to other sulfide removal methods. - Applicable to both gaseous and liquid material achieving nearly 100% sulfide removal. - The end waste product from the process creates materials that can be re-used as an additive to fertilizer or as a soil enhancer as well as substance that can be added to paints, resins, concrete to provide antibacterial properties.
