The goal of this research project is to develop a scientifically tested way to effectively display the massive amount of data that is available in online homework systems. This research is done in partnership with Mathtoons Media Inc. whose goal is to develop and enhance Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education through the use of mobile practice platform Practi. The Practi system generates massive amounts of learning outcome data that needs to be summarized to allow educators to understand where students find difficulty and also develop new techniques to educate in the new mobile environment. This work will develop and test various methods to visually and numerically summarize the data so that educators can quickly make decisions and improve the overall education experience of students. The research will also develop additional learning content in statistics that can be used by educators across Canada to enhance the statistical skills of students. Given the massive amounts of data available in all areas of science it is imperative that students have the skill to understand and summarize the data to make data-driven decisions. This research is one step in the direction to increase the quantitative skills of students.
