This proposal is for the development of a prototype paper-based easy-to-use system that can be used to detect levels of vitamin and other health indicators in a single drop of blood, allowing users to test themselves at home. Such technology is highly sought-after for long-term personal health self-monitoring and management, which is envisioned to be a key solution leading to better health and better life quality for patients with chronic diseases. This project is the first joint R&D effort between Tang's nanotechnology group at University of Waterloo and Vitameter, an Ontario start-up company pioneering in blood sensors. Tang group will contribute expertise in making nanomaterial-based electrochemical sensors and analytical chemistry, while Vitameter contributes expertise in engineering design of paper-based lateral flow devices. This collaboration would greatly assist in Vitameter's R&D process, as well as provide the Tang lab with a new sensor platform for future cutting edge research.
