XCo's interests are in product authentication and information for anti-counterfeiting and marketing purposes.
Development of a platform solution that allows on using Nano-Media technology as developed by PI and
XCO's system that provides communication and tracking of information is proposed. The Nano-Media's optical
images and stored data need to be connected to XCo's wireless reader for authentication and tracking. In order
to provide a robust platform the following challenges will dictate the research innovation program: (1) The
mobile cameras ability to read and capture Nano-Media information: alignment and other ease of use issues;
amount of information that can be easily read; minimal resolution required; smartphone vs cellphone cameras
implementations. (2) Recognizing overt features: minimize training required to recognize a counterfeit. (3)
Visuals: range of artistic/overt features that can be done (ex. images, logos, 2D, 3D, branding); augmented
visualizations on devices (smartphone, tablet, displays) using Augmented Reality.
(4) Manufacturing: The initial goal is to fabricate a set of useful samples using new specific nanofabrication
processes for XCo's requirements such as updated data and personalization of information included into the
images or stored data.
