Dr. Kaminska will lead a program of research to develop new technologies and processes to enable environmentally friendly, low-cost manufacturing of self-powered, self-configuring components for context-aware computing via wireless sensor networks. The resulting sensor networks will transform applications such as biomedical monitoring, activity tracking, and security and safety monitoring of personnel working in remote or hazardous locations. She will research the key challenges facing real-world implementation; organic electronics and novel fabrication processes will reduce manufacturing costs, ambient energy harvesting aims to provide perpetual power, novel soft film capacitors will increase energy storage, and innovative nano-structure technology will increase component efficiency.
