This project focuses on authentication as a key element of security infrastructures that protects confidentiality, privacy, value, and allows the reliable fusion and integration of a variety of electronic devices, sensors and technologies, called cyber-physical systems (CPS). Security is a central challenge for the development of cloud-based technologies and the Internet of Things IoT), in which the physical environment becomes part of the global infrastructures of connected and shareable data.** This project will take advantage of current developments in nanotechnology, the general miniaturization of electronic devices, and increasingly augmented materials integrating multiple technologies. Recent progress in optical variable devices, quantum electronics, and availability of advanced manufacturing open paths to new generations of system security, authenticated access, and densely integrated authentic electronics. ** This research proposal will focus on protecting privacy, integrity and ensure secure reliable integration of devices within the Strategic Target Area 'Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)', in particular the Research Topics: 'Cybersecurity - Secure authentication and authorization at scale', and 'IoT - Integration'. It can be also used as an electronic key to allow the data to be maintained by the data owners to ensure their privacy and the authenticity through the life of a CPS, or as a tool for secure 3D integration process of the secure electronic devices. ** The supporting organizations special application interests relate to smart grid, autonomous mobile systems, medical monitoring, and financial transactions. BC Hydro demands new improved methods to authenticate data captured from smart meters, devices and sensors, to validate user's identities, and to secure and authorize access to services and information. XCo is researching better methods to ensure sensitive data privacy in their IoT network. Adigy intends to apply the proposed technology to personal wireless sensors and personalized authorization for access to proprietary data. ******
