项目摘要
Universal wireless connectivity is enabling an internet of things (IoT) to realize automated communication
between many devices. However, numerous wireless frequency bands must be supported in order to implement
connectivity world-wide. BlackBerry's ability to support different bands in their current radio receiver designs
is limited primarily by the requirement for dedicated front-end filters, which are used to reject out-of-band
signals. The problem is exacerbated for IoT devices which must be physically small and inexpensive. The work
proposed in this Engage project is expected to resolve these limitations and enable IoT devices with universal
connectivity.
The proposed designs are based on passive switching mixers, which are known for their high linearity. These
mixers also work as tunable filters when combined with reactive elements. Tunable backend filtering helps to
reject unwanted blockers and decrease the performance required from dedicated front-end filters. High-linearity
wideband RF amplifiers (front- and back-end) and baseband/IF filtering concepts aimed at reducing the cost
and complexity of a complete radio receiver for IoT applications will also be investigated.
