Bombardier, a leading Canadian commercial and business aircraft manufacturer, is looking into the cold spray process as a technology able to reduce the cost of non-structural fuselage skin damage repair. University of Windsor Institute for Diagnostic Imaging Research (IDIR), one of the recognized in the area of cold spray research organizations, developed a new, cold spray process-based Al skin repair process. IDIR and Bombardier will work together on testing mechanical and metallurgical properties of cold sprayed coatings to asses whether the repair process developed by IDIR can be applied to the needs of the aircraft industry.
