Climate change and extreme weather, a by-product of greenhouse gas emissions, has been a critical issue facing the world. Electric vehicles (EVs) are a key to future clean transportation, and they will contribute to promoting sustainable energy development and addressing air quality and climate change. They are especially beneficial in Canada, as the majority of our electricity is generated from renewable and low-emission sources. Despite the various incentives from governments worldwide, the rollout of EVs has been slow. Limited transportation range and lack of convenient charging services are among the major obstacles. Furthermore, if the charging of a large number of EVs is unmanaged, the aggregated charging demand may create a peak load to potentially endanger the power system.
