Climate change and extreme weather, a by-product of greenhouse gas emissions, has been a critical issue facing the world. Electric vehicles (EVs) are a key to future clean transportation, and they will contribute to promoting sustainable energy development and addressing air quality and climate change. They are especially beneficial in Canada, as the majority of our electricity is generated from renewable and low-emission sources. Despite the various incentives from governments worldwide, the rollout of EVs has been slow. Limited transportation range and lack of convenient charging services are among the major obstacles. Furthermore, if the charging of a large number of EVs is unmanaged, the aggregated charging demand may create a peak load to potentially endanger the power system. **The good news is that EVs are now hitting the market in the same period that vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication technologies are emerging, and utilities around the globe are racing to make their grids more intelligent by adopting information and communication technologies. In addition to solving the above range and charging problems, the nexus of the Internet, EVs, charging stations, and smart power grids constitutes a perfect storm of opportunities for future green and intelligent transportation. In this new paradigm, reliable, efficient, and secure information exchanges between EVs, meters, charging stations and grid, and real-time data management and analysis are key issues. To achieve a competitive edge for Canadian players, this project will define interdisciplinary research efforts to develop advanced information, communication and control techniques for networked EVs, focusing on scalable and efficient EV communication network design, smart EV charging providing demand response services, and security and privacy in the cyber physical systems. They are key enabling tools for networked EVs, which may not only revolutionize how things move, but also how energy flows, leading to future green and intelligent transportation of both things and energy.**********************************************
