英文摘要
The proposed list of equipment will be used to support PI's NSERC E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship research program on "Ultra-Reliable and Scalable Wireless Networks for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X)". ******Vehicles can exchange information using low-cost wireless technologies. With abundant information from other vehicles, pedestrians, road-side infrastructure and clouds, each connected vehicle (new or even old one) can see and sense much better than any individual driver or car, and make intelligent decisions to ensure road safety, improve transportation and energy efficiency, reduce emission, and provide infotainment services. However, reliable and scalable wireless transmissions for V2X is technically challenging. Each vehicle, from driver assisted to autonomous one, will generate a flood of information, up to thousands of times of that by a person. Vehicle density may change drastically over time (off vs. peak hours) and location (main vs. side streets). In a congested road during rush hour or due to accident, thousands of vehicles need to exchange information badly, only to find that service is limited or unavailable due to the scarcity of wireless spectrum, a grand challenge not solvable using traditional wireless technologies. We propose to address the challenge by exploiting the spatial capacity of wireless systems with non-traditional hardware and software designs. Furthermore, considering the vehicle beaconing traffic characteristics, we propose to investigate the opportunities of applying wireless sensing technology to enhance the communication reliability and scalability. The proposed research program will leverage the latest wireless signal processing, communications, and sensing technologies. There is no up-to-date infrastructure dedicated to supporting the V2X research program in the local region. The proposed equipment acquisition will be used to create a state-of-the-art wireless testbed for the development, test, and enhancement of ultra-reliable and scalable V2X technologies.
