Coccidiosis is caused by Eimeria and is considered one of the most important poultry diseases worldwide due to the enormous economic losses associated with lost performance and medication. Traditionally, the management of coccidiosis has been through the use of anticoccidial drugs. However, public and consumer pressure is being directed against production practices using antimicrobial growth promoters and drug-related forms of chemotherapy.
