英文摘要
The objective of the proposed research is to develop and understand a series of novel organic chemical reactions mediated by transition metal complexes or catalyzed by either transition metal complexes or main group compounds. The goals include the development of types of carbon-carbon bond forming reactions not normally readily accomplished by traditional organic chemical processes (i.e., the pattern of reactivity is inverted that which is ‘natural’ in most organic compounds), and to prepare and use compounds that could not normally exist if it were not for the presence of the metal unit. In particular the proposed metal catalyzed allylation reactions, in conjunction with other catalytic reactions, are designed for being catalytic methods of giving this inverted pattern of reactivity. The proposed chemistry alkynedicobalt complexes are designed to make possible in extended synthetic chemistry the use of compounds that could not be isolated if not for the cobalt atoms. The ultimate goal for the reactions investigated is to develop the chemistry to the point where it can be used in the synthesis of organic molecules of importance, such as compounds that have potential anti-cancer properties, antileukemic properties, antibacterial or insect antifeedant activity. In many cases, the organic compounds simply have interesting structures, and in other cases the prepared compounds are designed to address or challenge question of the fundamental properties of chemical compounds, such as what makes such a compound stable (or unstable).
