This equipment supports the collection and analysis of environmental data from aquatic environments including lake, rivers and the ocean. As basic robotics science has matured it is becoming possible to collect data of wide regions of space, and make measurements that may be profound scientific implications. This grant propose the acquisition and user of several sensor technologies to allow robotic systems to make short term and long term measurements of water quality and marine habitats, both in Canadian waters and in the open ocean. A key aspect of this work is determining how and where (and when) robots can efficiently make measurements to make the best use of limited sensing resources and get the most accurate picture of the environment.
