BACKGROUND: Clinical ultrasound (US) systems include B-mode for structure imaging, Doppler modes for flow characterization, and elastography modes for tissue deformation and elasticity assessments. Other methods using radiofrequency (RF) backscatter echoes have also been developed for tissue characterization of numerous organs.
